Triple threat actress Erica Stephan is the talk of Chicago for her stunning interpretation of the iconic character Sally Bowles in Porchlight Music Theatre’s mounting of Cabaret, now extended through March 5.
On Friday, February 3, Stephan will join radio’s It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee to talk about her starring role in Cabaret, how she developed her character, the background and training that got her to this point, and what the future might hold.
Reviews have raved about Stephan’s amazing performance as Sally Bowles under the direction of Michael Weber, the artistic director for Porchlight Music Theatre. Choreography is by Brenda Didier and vocal and musical direction is by Linda Madonia – both instrumental parts of Stephan’s performance.
The Chicago Tribune labels Stephan “a knockout”, PickInSix calls Stephan’s performance “breathtaking”, and Talkin’ Broadway endorses her talents as “terrific.” New City Stage raves “Stephan has undoubtedly set the bar for Sally Bowles.”
It is such an honor that people choose to include It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee among the options to listen to among Chicago radio’s programs focused on theater and entertainment. If you haven’t checked it out, I hope you will. It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee airs Fridays at 3 PM Central on 101.5 FM and streaming at www.HuntleyRadio.com. Episodes are also available as podcasts that can be streamed anytime from any part of the world at https://huntleyradio.com/hcr/its-showtime-with-rikki-lee/
Erica Stephan plays Sally Bowles like the part was written just for her, and her alone. It is one of the best musical theater performances I have ever seen. Listeners will be fascinated by the story of how Erica and the creative staff came up with this magnificent interpretation of the character.
Stephan’s previous credits include roles with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Theatre at the Center, Mercury Theater Chicago, and Paramount Theatre. Notable roles include the title role in Mary Poppins, Cosset in Les Miserables, Fiona in Shrek, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Stephanie Mangano in Saturday Night Fever.
Already a respected Chicago talent, this breakout role as Sally Bowles in Porchlight’s Cabaret has put Stephan on the nation’s watchlist. Every single review touts Stephan’s greatness.
In my opinion, this performance in Cabaret is going to attract a lot of attention for Erica. She has now entered the stage in her musical theater career where she’s going to start getting offers for theaters around the country to bring her in for their productions.
I suggest that you check out my review of Cabaret . Here’s an excerpt: “With a powerful voice, incredible dance skills, and an acting talent that demands star billing, Erica Stephan is the kind of actress that can make any role seem like it was written for her. If you miss her performance as Sally Bowles, you’ve missed greatness.”
I really think that listeners will fall in love with Erica Stephan during our interview. Not only is she this incredible talent, she is funny, charming, and down to earth. You’ll be an instant fan.
