An Interview with Buckcherry’s Josh Todd

On this week’s episode of It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee – the weekly radio program I host on 101.5 FM WHRU out of Chicago’s Huntley neighborhood – I have the great pleasure of sitting down with Josh Todd, the uniquely talented lead singer and impassioned lyricist for platinum selling recording artists Buckcherry.

Buckcherry has been churning out hits since the 1990s. Well known singles include Sorry, Crazy B*tch, Everything, Lit Up, and All Night Long. They have an aggressive hard rock sound that cuts like a razor and is instantly recognizable. They’ve toured with such artists as KISS, Lenny Kravitz, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Fozzy, Papa Roach, The Lacs, and Limp Bizkit.

One of the best live bands in the business, now Buckcherry is back on the tour supporting their new album Hellbound, available on Round Hill Records in the North America and Earache Records in the U.K., Europe, and Australia.

On April 29, Buckcherry will be coming to Chicago with a huge concert at the Des Plaines Theatre. The theatre has just been remodeled and is easily accessible by car or Metra. How easily? There’s a train station located directly across the street! The Des Plaines Theatre is quickly becoming one of the prime Chicago stages for concerts, comedy, and other events.

It was an absolute honor getting to pick Josh Todd’s brain for a while. He was very gracious and open and I think people are really going to enjoy our talk when it airs Friday, April 22 at 3 PM Central. Those local to Huntley and the surrounding areas can listen at 101.5 FM. But if you live elsewhere, don’t feel left out. You can also stream the show in real time at www.HuntleyRadio.com.

If those options don’t work into your schedule, you’ll be also able to listen to the interview as a podcast at the It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee program page.

In the interview you’ll get to hear about how Josh’s dreams of a career in music got their origins. Would you believe that his original ambition was to be a surfer? You’ll be really entertained to find out how he went from a kid riding the bus with a surfboard to fronting his first band.

We’ll also spend quite a bit of time focusing on Buckcherry’s new album Hellbound. Todd calls this the band’s best album to date, and I’m inclined to agree. The songs all have the signature Buckcherry sound, but also show some real exciting new musical touches.

Producer Marti Frederiksen really influenced the overall sound of Hellbound. Marti’s background musical pedigree includes previous collaborations with Aerosmith, Sheryl Crow, Def Leppard, and Johnny Lang. Josh and I discuss what magic Marti brought to the recording process.

Buckcherry consists of Josh on vocals, guitarists Stevie D. and Billy Rowe, bassist Kelly LeMieux, and drummer Francis Ruiz. While Josh and Stevie D. handle the bulk of the songwriting duties, each member of the band adds their own unique element to the overall sound.

Hard rock fans are going to want to get tickets now for the April 29 Buckcherry show at the Des Plaines Theatre, conveniently located a stone’s throw from Chicago. For tickets visit: www.DesPlainesTheatre.com or call (630) 962-7000.

Don’t forget to tune in to 101.5 FM or www.HuntleyRadio.com on Friday, April 22 at 3 PM Central for an interview with Buckcherry founder Josh Todd that I guarantee you’ll find fascinating.

Peace. Love. Trust.
