An Interview with Joseph Jefferson Award-winning Actress Karen Vaccaro

Winning a Joseph Jefferson Award is the highest honor one can earn in Chicago Theatre. Karen Vaccaro has won three.

I’ve had my share of celebrities on It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee, my weekly radio talk show focused on the entertainment industry that airs every Friday at 3 PM Central on 101.5 FM out of Chicagoland’s Huntley community and streaming worldwide at www.HuntleyRaido.com. However, few have had me as excited to share as my interview with Karen Vaccaro that hits the airwaves Friday, November 5.

Vaccaro has appeared at Steppenwolf, Goodman, Royal George, and Chicago Shakespeare, to name just a few of the stages she has graced in and around Chicago. She has even been in the spotlight on Broadway. Her film credits include The Lake House, A Stir of Echoes, and U.S. Marshals. Her television credits include Early Edition, Missing Persons, and Prison Break.

Most recently, though, Vaccaro has been concentrating her efforts on coaching other actors to achieve their best chance of following in her successful footsteps. Vaccaro’s technique is based in Stanislavsky, but also incorporate ideologies from the teachings of Sandford Meisner, Lee Strasberg, Eric Morris, Michael Shurtleff, Michael Chekhov and Robert Cohen.

Karen has won three Joseph Jefferson Awards. She is a true star of Chicago Theatre and I get to pick her brain and share her wisdom with everyone who wants to tune in on the radio for 30 minutes on Friday afternoon. The principles Karen will be sharing are things anyone interested in theater will want to take to heart.
