Save the United States Postal Service

In 2020 Donald Trump called for the appointment of Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General of the United States for two purposes.

Trump and DeJoy’s first priority was to severely slow mail delivery in hopes of squashing mail in voting ballots for rival Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Election. To do this, DeJoy had all mail sorting machines disassembled and discarded in a way they could not be rebuilt and put back into use. He also banned overtime for postal employees. It was an underhanded and evil attempt to steal the election. Such changes were made without any impact analysis – something that is standard. And, as a result, mail delivery slowed to a snail’s pace in less than a month.

Thankfully, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents tired of Trump’s anti-American antics, constant lies, destruction of the economy, and white supremacist views turned out in mass to elect Biden as the 46th President of the United States.

The other reason DeJoy was put in office by Trump was to bankrupt the U.S. Postal Service so Republicans could force privatization of the mail. DeJoy, in fact, owns considerable stock in a private competitor to the USPS and has awarded that company (XPO Logistics) a $120 million contract since becoming Postmaster General. Like many of Trump’s appointees, DeJoy is grossly incompetent and has a clear conflict of interest. In fact, he is under an active investigation by the FBI for forcing employees to make political contributions to Trump and other far-right politicians.

Even though Trump lost the election by over seven million votes, DeJoy is still Postmaster General. You may wonder why.

Lawmakers, ethics groups, and the majority of Americans in general want DeJoy ousted from the position he is so violently abusing. But it’s not that simple.

Although Trump selected DeJoy to be Postmaster, the position is actually voted in and out by the USPS Board of Governors. Unfortunately, thanks to Trump appointments, that Board of Governors tips to the right in a 6 of 9 split. Thus, DeJoy has been able to remain in in the position.

Recently it was announced that DeJoy is seeking to further slow the U.S. mail service. This leads to late bill payments and fines, late rent payments putting families at risk for eviction, and late medication deliveries causing health concerns for those who depend on them.

Attorney Generals in 19 states and the District of Columbia have filed an administrative complaint seeking to block DeJoy’s 10-year plan to permanently slow mail delivery even further. Once his plan goes into place, many facets will be irreversible.

So, what can be done? Two of the Board of Governors terms are up or about to be up. Biden can replace them with patriots who value the USPS and are opposed to DeJoy’s drastic underhanded attacks on the agency. If Biden appoints wisely, the balance will shift to 5 of 9 in favor of removing DeJoy.

I am a fan of President Biden. He is actively working everyday to reverse the massive damage Trump caused our beloved country.

My one complaint about President Biden is that he is overly committed to being nonpartisan. While I would normally applaud such a position, when Republicans are so grossly obsessed with ruining our country, I think Biden must take a partisan stance to save the nation.

Left unchecked, DeJoy will bankrupt the USPS and cause its closure. Biden must act now.

I encourage you to reach out to President Biden and advocate for the speedy appointment of new members to the USPS Board of Governors to facilitate the removal of DeJoy.

You can also send a letter via the USPS (although thanks to DeJoy it will take a long time to get there).

Let your voice be heard. Demand that DeJoy be removed from his post.

Peace. Love. Trust.
