In the Words of Pete Buttigieg

I read a quote from Pete Buttigieg, United States Secretary of Transportation. He said that since Republicans call anything Democrats do “Socialist”, we should not worry about what Republicans call it at all, instead we should focus on if it’s a good idea. If it’s a good idea that would benefit the country, then we should do it.

And that’s true. The knock on Senator Bernie Sanders as a presidential candidate was that Donald Trump and his Republican cohorts would label anything Sanders pitched as being “socialist.” So, to play it safe, the Democrats pushed former Vice President and political centrist Joe Biden as the 2020 nomination.

Like most Democrats, Biden pursues an agenda of investing in the American people. But, Biden is far from being a Socialist. Even Bernie Sanders is far from being a Socialist.

As Buttigieg points out, it doesn’t matter who is in office or how good the policies are. If it stems from a Democrat, Trump and his cohorts in Congress are calling it socialism. They know it’s not. But Republicans seem compelled to lie.

Socialist is the big bad boogie man that Republicans like to bring up, hoping that that their constituents don’t know what it means or that their social security checks, food stamps, police department, fire department, and public school are all socialist programs.

Donald Trump and the modern Republican party depend on the gullibility of their followers. It’s just amazing how gullible they are. Let’s take a look at patriotism.

Donald Trump was installed into the office of President of the United States thanks to his cooperation with Russia – a hostile foreign nation with an entire cyber workforce dedicated to weakening the U.S. Evidence of this was reflected in reports by the FBI, CIA, and Department of Homeland Security, as well as the intelligence agencies of numerous U.S. allies.

On top of that, Trump is a draft dodger. During the Vietnam War, Trump relied on a fraudulently obtained diagnosis of bone spurs to avoid the draft. Yet his nonexistent bone spurs didn’t stop him from playing college sports during that same time.

Then after becoming president, Trump opted not to visit a cemetery to honor fallen soldiers, calling the deceased military “losers” and “suckers”.

He also insulted war hero and fellow Republican, Senator John McCain, with Trump claiming McCain was no war hero because he captured and spent five years as a prison of war. “He’s not a war hero,” stated Trump in 2015 while seeking the Republican nomination. “I like people who weren’t captured.”

You’d think this kind of well documented behavior would make even the most passive patriot enraged. Yet the gullible embrace Trump’s claims of love of country, seeing him as the ultimate patriot. They take pictures of Trump’s face Photoshopped onto Rambo’s body as an authentic representation of their hero – rather than the bloated, lying, orange makeup wearing pig that he is in real life.

In the new book I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonnig and Philp Rucker detailing Trump’s deranged world view, the writers say Trump claimed he would have beaten George Washington in an election. This from the man who lost the 2016 election by 3 million votes and the 2020 election by 7 million votes, earning his one term in the White House only by the gerrymandering technicalities of the archaic and racially biased electoral college.

And in the case of Trump’s epic 2020 loss to President Joe Biden, Cult of Trump followers actually believe the ridiculous and baseless claims that he didn’t lose. This has become known as The Big Lie.

According to I Alone Can Fix It, Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani came up with the idea of The Big Lie on election night when the results started to swing clearly in Biden’s favor. You’d think they knew this was coming since Trump had trailed badly in every pre-election poll including those by Fox News.

But Trump believes his own fabrications, including his false narratives that he had the largest inauguration crowd of all time, that he was responsible for the greatest economy anyone has ever inherited from his predecessor, and that he is the most loved and respected world leader of all time.

As the election results kept pouring in showing America’s clear love of Joe Biden, Trump became increasingly unraveled. He was truly surprised he wasn’t winning. Finally, a drunken Giuliani encouraged Trump to “just say we won”.  And so that’s what Trump did.

It was an attempt to save face. Nobody actually expected more than a few hundred die-hard cult followers to believe it. Perhaps the ones who believe Trump is battling a satanic cult of Democratic politicians and celebrities who run a sex trafficking ring and maintain their power by drinking the blood of children.

But then the strangest thing happened. The Republicans in Congress got on board The Big Lie. They know it’s a lie. Yet they pledge their tainted allegiance do it anyway. They are actively and purposefully attacking the democratic institution they are sworn to uphold. Doesn’t that fit the definition of treason?

Now allegiance to The Big Lie has become the litmus test for the Republican Party. Anyone who actually shows an adherence to the truth is demonized within the party. How’s that for corruption? Abraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower would be turning over in their graves if such a thing were possible.

There is no doubt about it. Trump is, was, and always will be a corrupt person. According to a tally by the Washington Post’s fact checkers, Trump told over 30,000 lies while in office. The corruption doesn’t stop there. Just in the last few days the Trump Organization has been indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan. Additional indictments are expected.

And of the $75 million Trump has raised to “fight election results” with his Save America PAC, no money has been spent on ballot challenges. Funds have gone to Trump’s travel and living expenses. It’s almost as if he was purposefully duping his followers out of their money to maintain his lavish lifestyle. But would Trump do something like that?

Trump doesn’t care about the American people. All he cares about is himself. And right now he is deflecting attention from his legal problems by spouting accusations of socialism and being a Republican in Name Only, or RINO. It’s all just a PR game.

But as Buttigieg has said – let’s not get into a war of words with liars. Instead, let’s focus our energies on doing good things.

Peace. Love. Trust.
