Marisa Tomei Made 50 Sexy Again

I was working on a screenplay the other day. The scene I was working on centered on a trio of very different actresses in their 50’s competing for the same role. On the subject of age, one of the characters extoled that “Marisa Tomei made 50 sexy again.”

Although the line was meant to get laughs, it is true. Marisa Tomei is even sexier today than she has ever been. I would date her in a heartbeat. Sadly, she has not been calling me lately…or ever.

The more I think about it, the more I appreciate that women of a certain age can still be beautiful. They can still be alluring. They can still be sexy.

I’m a big fan of the series Animal Kingdom. For four seasons, Ellen Barkin wowed audiences with her sensuality as a grandmother leading a crime family. Barkin was in her early sixties when the show premiered in 2016 and she was still just as sexy when she left the series after Season Four.

Katey Sagal most recently played the title character in the 2021 legal television drama Rebel. Her character, Annie “Rebel” Bello was inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich, who was also an executive producer on the series. Although the series was canceled after 5 episodes, I loved it. And I have no problem admitting that I found 67-year-old Sagal incredibly sexy in the role.

Morgan Fairchild, Jessica Lange, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Christie Brinkley, Heather Locklear, Elisabeth Shue, Courtney Cox, Halle Berry, Madonna…all are sexy women over the age of 50. And they are not alone. Take a good look around Hollywood and you’ll see plenty of beauties still turning heads.

Nor do you have to be famous to be sexy over 50. I see women over the age of 50 every day that are every bit as beautiful as their counterparts in Hollywood.

So, what is it that makes a more mature woman sexy?

I think the maturity is part of the allure. These women all present an aura that they have accumulated a lifetime worth of tricks that no 20 years old is going to come close to knowing.

On the cerebral side, there is also an appreciation for their depth of knowledge and ability to hold a conversation. While twenty-year-olds have their appeals too, in all honesty there are only so many conversations you can have about the Fast and the Furious.

I say that in jest. There are plenty of women in their 20s who could easily talk circles around me. But they are the ones who have sought out life experience and made great efforts to be informed.

Is this meant to imply that I am more prone to be attracted to older women? I don’t think so. But I am definitely open to appreciating the beauty of women of a certain age equally as much as any other women who knows how to put herself together.

The fact is I don’t get caught up on age. I date woman older than me. I also date women younger than me. To me it is the person that matters.

It boils down to the fact that at the end of the day we are all salespeople. And the product that we are selling is ourselves. Some people sell their product by making it pretty. Some people sell their product based upon the ingredients. Every consumer is different. For some the pedigree is important. For others it’s the pretty packaging.

Women like Katey Sagal and Ellen Barkin who can still be sex symbols in their 60s should be applauded and admired. They are proof positive that a women of any age can be sexy if they put the effort in and carry themselves with the right sense of confidence.

I certainly think an argument can be made that real men appreciate a confident woman – a true partner. That confidence is a part of their packaging. It’s the sexual allure equivalent of the endorsement slogan “Four out of five dentists recommend Trident.”

I don’t know how many dentists recommend Marisa Tomei, but I definitely think she made 50 sexy again. She is beautiful, intelligent, talented, and confident – and that is sexy.

Peace. Love. Trust.
