Goodbye Donald Trump

This month voters came out in record numbers to propel Joe Biden to the office President of the Unites States of America. Biden received 75 million votes in the 2020 election, breaking the previous record held by Barack Obama (69.9 million). Biden’s 52% of the popular vote represent a larger share of the popular vote than Reagan won in 1980, Obama won in 2012, or Clinton won in either of his two victories in the 1990s. Biden is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2021.

Yet I get a sick feeling in my stomach that we haven’t heard the last of would-be dictator Donald Trump. Despite Biden’s insurmountable lead in both the popular vote and the electoral college, Trump has refused to concede defeat. He has ordered his administration to not aid Biden’s incoming administration, contrary to what every outgoing administration in modern history has done.

Trump has filed ridiculous lawsuits in states across the country. In some states he claims mail in votes should be counted. In other states he insists counting should stop. There is no consistent logical message from Trump, because he is not a logical man. He is a narcissist who cannot understand that people hate him, so in a final act desperation he is throwing a temper tantrum that will potentially last until Biden takes office in January 2021.  But why did losing the election come as a surprise to Trump?

Every major poll in the months leading up to the election had Joe Biden with a significant lead over incumbent Trump. That includes Trump’s alt-right wing ally FOX News. In fact, most polls had Biden with double digit leads. According to the Gallup poll, in the amount of time the poll has been in place, Trump is the only president to never reach a 50% job approval rating at any point in his administration.

Trump’s demoralizing landslide defeat by record numbers shouldn’t have been a surprise to him or his inner circle. People are tired of Trump’s constant lies (Over 20,000 since taking office as certified by the Washington Post). People are tired of Trump’s excuses for destroying the record economy he inherited from Obama. People are tired of Trump’s passing the buck for his grossly incompetent handling of the COVID-19 pandemic that directly resulted in the deaths of over 241,000 Americans…and counting.

The problem is, Trump doesn’t understand he’s the laughingstock of the free world. He gets irate when he is confronted with the truth. So, his enablers do just that: enable him to live in his fantasy world.

Trump has been accused of sexual assault by at least 26 women. In most of these cases Trump’s defense has been that he doesn’t know the accuser, when in fact there is clear evidence to the contrary including pictures and witnesses. He’s also used the utterly convincing, “she’s not my type” defense.

You’d think that to be accused of sexual assault by even one woman would be a cause of concern. That there are enough instances for an entire book is mindboggling. The book All the President’s Women: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator, cites evidence of the 26 instances of sexual assault by Trump and an additional 43 occurrences of inappropriate behavior. That is the resume of a serial rapist – a man of wealth and privilege who has lived his whole life never having to take no for an answer. If he wants it, he takes it. “Just deny it later, and if necessary, throw money at it” seems to be the Trump trademark approach to sexual assault charges. It is a rapist mentality where he never has to take accountability.

That rapist mentality of Donald Trump is the reason why he seems genuinely unable to grasp he was on the losing end of a landslide presidential election. He lives in a fictional world where he honestly believes that if he says it, it’s true. His enablers have called his delusions “alternative facts” to try to gussy up the true definition that what he spews are clearly lies. He, himself, is known for the battle cry “fake news” whenever the facts don’t support his latest birdbrain idea.

Windmill cancer? Clorox injections?  Hurricane Dorian and the sharpie pen? We all remember these examples of Trump’s idiocy. Plain and simple, he is an incompetent fool.

Trump lost the election by a landslide. The fact that he is too small of a man to accept defeat is problematic, but not surprising. There will be a transition of power from the Trump administration to the Biden administration. Whether or not it is a smooth transition of power is yet to be seen. We may just end up seeing the Secret Service forcibly removing Trump from the White House in handcuffs.

Come to think of it, the image of Trump being led out of the Capital in irons is an image a lot of voters would like to see – myself included. Maybe that’s our just reward for suffering through the tantrums of this overgrown child for the past four years.

The last few days of the Trump administration will be interesting. He knows that the Mueller report found that he was guilty of colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election and that he was guilty of obstruction of justice trying to cover it up. Trump has avoided prosecution of these crimes by claiming a sitting president can’t be charged. That’s about to change.

As such, I would not be surprised if Trump tries to pardon himself, which I don’t think is legal. If that isn’t an option, he may resign from the presidency so that Vice President Mike Pence can pardon him.

But a presidential pardon only applies to federal crimes. Trump is under investigation for multiple crimes in the state of New York including fraud, money laundry, and tax evasion. Once he is out of office, Trump will face prosecution in New York and there are many witnesses ready to testify including his former fixer and personal attorney Michael Cohen. He also will be forced to provide DNA evidence to attorneys of E. Jean Carroll who accused him of rape. The only way Trump can avoid these charges is if he flees the country – which I think may just happen.

No matter what happens with Trump, I celebrate the fact that soon we will have a real president in office that we the people can respect and that foreign leaders can respect. The Joe Biden/Kamala Harris administration will soon be at work repairing the damage Trump has done. It’s time for change. It’s time for competent leadership. It’s time for America to shine again.

Peace. Love. Trust.
