In 2019, “the show to see” in Chicagoland was Million Dollar Quartet at Marriott Theatre, thanks to the high-energy performance of Nat Zegree.
Million Dollar Quartet provides a fictionalized view into the actual time Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis all met together for one evening at the Sun Records recording studio. In the production Zegree played Lewis.
As “The Killer”, Zegree played piano backwards, upside down, and even blindfolded. It was a tour de force performance that still has Chicagoans talking to this day.
“The standout of the evening is young Nat Zegree as Jerry Lee Lewis. His talent and energy are simply off the charts,” noted Colin Douglas of the Chicago Theatre Review.
“He boggles the mind with his dexterity and flexibility, pounding the piano keys with arms, legs, feet, and, even, his back end,” added Scott C. Morgan of the Daily Herald.
I took my teenaged son to Million Dollar Quartet at the Marriott Theatre. He was awe-struck by Zegree.
In fact, the next day my son called me to tell me that he had Googled Jerry Lee Lewis when he got home, and he had come to the conclusion that Zegree was a better Jerry Lee Lewis than Jerry Lee Lewis.
Now the Marriott is pleased to bring Zegree back to Chicago for a one night only concert “From Mozart to Pop Chart” on February 10.
Those unable to get tickets for the sold-out event, can still get a glimpse of Zegree’s talent by purchasing his original album “Fly More Than You Fall”, which is available on iTunes: https://music.apple.com/us/album/fly-more-than-you-fall/1159854824
In addition to performing and recording, Zegree is a virtuoso writer/composer. One of his three original musicals with writing partner Eric Holmes, will receive it’s first full production this Fall.
